We are very proud of the school meals we serve here at Yeadon Westfield Infant School. Our staff work incredibly hard to ensure that our children have a healthy and happy lunchtime experience, and the kitchen staff are committed to providing healthy and balanced meals which are planned and cooked by our own kitchen staff on the premises using fresh, local produce. Each day we provide a nutritionally balanced meal as well as a vegetarian/ Halal option where required. All food allergies are catered for. The children are encouraged to eat or try new things but they are not forced to eat things they do not like.
Our ethos of working together is very much in evidence at lunchtime. We promote a sense of responsibility amongst our older children who take it in turns to serve the other children and they take an enormous amount of pride in this role.
All children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 are entitled to Universal Free School Meals.
Nursery children can have a school dinner charged at £2 per day. Payments can be made online via the School Spider App or by logging in to the Parent's Area of the School website. Alternatively please send cash or cheques in a clearly named envelope to the school office. There is a tin in Nursery where this can be left.
Free School Meals
Children may be eligible for free school meals if their parents or carers receive any of the following benefits:
- income support
- income based Job Seeker’s Allowance
- income based Employment and Support Allowance
- Child Tax Credit with an annual income of less than £16,190
- the guaranteed element of the State Pension Credit
- the guaranteed element of Pension Credit
- support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
- Universal Credit with an annual income of less than £7,400
If you’re on benefits and your child is entitled to universal infant free school meals anyway or brings a packed lunch, it’s still important to register for a free school meal to ensure school doesn’t miss out on funding called pupil premium.
To find out if you are eligible call Leeds Welfare and Benefits Service on 0113 222 4404 or visit https://www.leeds.gov.uk/schools-and-education/apply-for-free-school-meals
The vast majority of our children enjoy our healthy school dinners. Some parents choose to send their children with packed lunches. In order to support parents in providing a healthy packed lunch, we have developed some Packed Lunch Guidance. We have followed government guidelines and feel that it offers a sensible and manageable approach. If you would like to discuss packed lunches further please do not hesitate to get in touch.
If you would like your child to go home for dinner, please make arrangement with the school office.
If you wish to change dinner arrangements, one week’s notice must be given in writing.
Parent's Lunchtime Invitation
We would like all parents to feel confident about our lunchtimes, so over the course of the school year we would like to invite parents and carers to have Roast Dinner with us on Wednesdays. The dinner hall has a space theme and the children have set tables to sit on named after planets. Parents will sit together on a separate table in the middle of the hall.
As you will appreciate, our hall is very busy, so we can only invite one parent per family, once over the course of the year. Please be aware for health and safety reasons we cannot accommodate younger siblings. You would need to be at school by 12 noon, and are welcome to enjoy playing with the children in the playground until 1.00pm if you wish.
If you would like to sample our lunchtime experience, please contact the school office by 3pm on the Wednesday of the week before you would like to come. Places are limited to 10 per day and will be allocated on a first come first served basis. If you have any special dietary requirements or food allergies please let the school office know at the time of booking.
