Curriculum Overview Early Years and Key Stage 1
In Early Years and Key Stage 1 we follow the Big Maths way of teaching, which gives our children an excellent understanding, confidence and, even more importantly, enjoyment. It involves a very systematic teaching of each skill through small, clearly defined steps which are revisited constantly.
At Yeadon Primary School, an understanding of calculations is developed from the beginning of nursery using Little Big Maths, and continued throughout Reception and into Years 1 and 2 using Little Big Maths and Big Maths. The Calculations Policy aims to give some visual images to support children’s developing understanding of calculations.
