Year 1 Summer Term 1 Blog
Date: 22nd May 2026 @ 3:25pm
Can you believe that’s another half term done and dusted? It has been a busy, exciting and successful five weeks in Year 1.
One of the biggest highlights was our trip to Skipton Castle in Week 1. The children had an amazing time exploring the castle, learning about its history and bringing their learning to life. We were so proud of how all the children behaved and how they were able to answer so many of the questions our guides asked. The trip was a huge success!
Our topic this half term has been “Oceans and Seas,” and the children have loved exploring this theme in all areas of the curriculum. In Science, we learnt all about sea animals and their habitats. In Geography, we investigated the oceans of the world, and in History we tracked the adventures of Christopher Columbus. Why not ask them what food we now have because of Christopher Columbus! In Art, the children created incredible shoebox dioramas of underwater habitats which included fantastic clay sea creatures.
We also had a visit from a Ranger and explored rockpools. The children absolutely loved looking at the different sea creatures and some were brave enough to hold and touch them!
The children are loving being outside more in a bigger space and hopefully the sun will keep shining for us next half term. We are now heading into our final half term together which is already full of exciting things. It’s going to be busy and very emotional.
Thank you, as always, for your continued support. It really does make such a difference and we are very grateful. Please remember to get in touch if we can help you with anything.
