Reception Class Blog - Summer Term 2

Date: 23rd Jul 2021 @ 11:51am

This last half term has been wonderful as we have seen each and every child flourish as they complete their year in Reception.

The children have continued to work hard to develop their phonics and writing skills. We have now covered the phase 3 digraphs and trigraphs three times over the course of the year and children are using their phonic knowledge to complete lovely pieces of writing. Please continue to work with your child at home to work on any unfamiliar sounds. New sounds and tricky words will be introduced in Year 1.

Our art exhibition provided a fantastic opportunity for children to showcase their creative talents. Our theme was ‘being outside’ and the children in Reception embraced the theme and the end result was really effective. Please watch our lovely art exhibition video on Tapestry if you haven’t already done so. We are so proud.

The art exhibition also helped produce some of the best writing so far! Well done Reception!

Healthy living fortnight highlighted the importance of eating a balanced diet and taking part in physical exercise. Reception thoroughly enjoyed their visit from the Japanese fan dancer and have taken part in sports day activities, a ‘fun on the field’ afternoon and other active PE lessons. All these session left the children with an increased heart rate and they were all full of enthusiasm.

Our last week in Reception was our ‘well-being week’. The staff in school have worked extremely hard to make the last week in school full of fun and energy. Some of the activities have included taking part in team games with Ash, a visit from some gorgeous donkeys, a bouncy castle, the disco and spending lots of time outside.

We are so proud of how far the children have come this year despite facing some unsettled times. The children have shown us how resilient, strong minded, special and unique they are and have tackled everything that has been sent their way.

Mrs Sharp, Miss Phillpotts and the Reception team are so proud of all the children’s individual accomplishments throughout the year and we wish them continued success in year 1.

We would also like to wish Miss Phillpotts the best of luck as she starts her Master’s degree in September and continues her teaching journey in Australia in 2022!

☀️ Happy holidays everyone, it’s been a year to remember! ☀️
