Information for Year 1/2

We hope you had a great summer and are feeling refreshed! We thought the best way of communicating some key things about next year might be in a letter. We hope this is helpful for you in preparing for the year ahead.

Passwords

Please remember to complete the online form sent earlier to provide us with a password. This password is vital because it will be asked for in the unlikely event that someone comes to collect your child and we are not aware or have not met the person yet. Please inform the class teacher any time they should expect a different person to pick up but please also be prepared for a password to be asked for. This is an important part of our safeguarding.

What to bring to school

Children in year 1/2 should bring only their book bags, coats and water bottles to school. It is important that the children have their own water bottles. We are continuing to follow our COVID risk assessment and so extra items and belongings make it more difficult to keep areas sanitary.

PE days

On P.E days, children should come to school dressed in their P.E kits. We found that this worked for both children and families and meant that we had more time to do P.E! Children should wear trainers every day to school as we will be continuing our daily mile running.
MW class- Thursday and Friday
LW- Monday and Tuesday
JN- Monday and Tuesday

Reading books

The children will be sent home with a reading book in the first week. We appreciate that many children will have read lots over the summer and will have made excellent progress. During the first few weeks of term, we will be assessing the children and checking we are happy with their book band colour. Please be patient with us whilst we do this! There are no set days when books will be sent out or should be returned so please just bring it back as soon as you can. Please be aware that our reading books are a teaching tool and are designed to cover and assess all of the year 1 and 2 curriculum. Feel free to supplement their reading with books you have at home or from the library.

Spellings

Both year 1 and 2 will do a spelling quiz each week. The quiz will be on Friday and this is the day when we will send out the new spellings for the next week. In order to reach expected standard in writing, children have to be able to spell a wide range of spelling patterns and tricky words. Please try and find time throughout the week to practise these spellings with your child.
