Eggciting news

Date: 7th May 2020 @ 8:29am

Yesterday, Wednesday 6th May, the first osprey chick of this year hatched at Rutland Water.

Check out the webcam as soon as you can to watch the chick being fed.

Maya and her partner were among the first ospreys to come back to our country and were the first to lay eggs over a month ago.  Maya laid four eggs a few days apart.  We would expect the next chicks to hatch every 2 or 3 days.

The ospreys on our other webcams are a few weeks behind Maya and her family.  They are busy incubating the eggs.  Watch them turning the eggs from time to time and protecting the eggs from predators.  Birds have to turn their eggs to keep the chicks developing correctly.

The exciting part of osprey watch has begun.  I hope you enjoy it as much as me and as much as the keyworker children who watch at school!

Love from Mrs Nolan.
