So here we are at the end of the year- and what a year it has been! We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their support this year. It has been another tricky year but we have come through it together and the children have so much to be proud of. We are so grateful to have such supportive parents in year 1.
The first thing we must comment on is the recent phonics checks we did. The year 1 children did not do the phonics checks formally this year but we did do an old paper regardless to see where the children were at. We are amazed by how well they did and irrespective of bubble closures and working from home, the children scored brilliantly. This is a testament to them and how hard they have worked this year.
Writing continues to be an area we will work on with the children next year. Our most recent piece of non-fiction writing on dragonflies was fantastic. The progress in writing has been great. The children are confident in writing sentences and are more consistently punctuating accurately, using conjunctions and adding extra details to make their writing more interesting. We hope that when you see the books and look back on their first piece of writing to their most recent you will be as proud as we are.
The children have loved maths this year. We have some very confident mathematicians. The most recent highlight has been the multiplication work. The children have excelled in these recent lessons and it has meant we have been able to extend their learning far beyond that of previous years. We are excited to see what they can achieve next year.
Despite all the challenges and difficulties faced this year, the children have been truly wonderful. They have worked so hard and given everything their all. It has been a pleasure and we are so lucky that they will be with us next year- we are excited to see them grow! There have been many laughs and great times this year and when the world has been unusual and difficult it is safe to say inside our classrooms has been for the most part, normal, happy and productive.
A huge thank you to everyone at home. We hope you enjoy your summer and we look forward to welcoming you all back in September.
