Year 1 Spring Term Blog

Date: 1st Apr 2021 @ 8:48am

What to write in this blog?

It has been a very unusual half term but we have made it and we have many things to be proud of!

The first week the children were back we had British Science week. This was a great first week back for the children. We started each day with a science story and from this story we did lots of exciting experiments and investigations. The children worked on predictions, recording data in tables, conclusion writing, setting up tests and many other skills. Some highlights from the week were investigating the most effective way of saving animals from frozen eggs, exploring the most suitable material for a boat and digging up plants to look at the different parts. We have some excellent scientists here in Year 1!

We have done lots of PE and physical activities this half term. We have made good use of the climbing frames and apparatus equipment in the hall. The children really enjoy these lessons and it has given them lots of opportunities to explore their coordination, balance and physical strength. We look forward to more outdoor P.E when we are back and the weather begins to improve. The children really enjoy P.E and we endeavour to do as much as we can alongside our daily running.

This half term we have done lots of PSHCE. We have had good class discussions about feelings. We have talked about how life is at the moment, how different circumstances can make us feel and how we manage those feelings. We have developed our PSHCE skills in listening to others and sharing ideas/thoughts and feelings. It has been a tricky time for everyone and the resilience of the children has been formidable. We will continue to work on PSHCE after Easter and well-being continues to be a priority for the rest of the year.

Have a great holiday and we look forward to seeing you next term!

Take care,

Mrs Nolan and Miss Worton
